VISHAKHAPATNAM, Nov.6: The two-day bandh in the Visakha Agency area, as part of the ‘Bharat Bandh’ for which the CPI (Maoist) has given a call, ended peacefully on Thursday. It was total and life came to a standstill in all the Agency mandals.
Borra caves, a popular tourist spot on the way to Araku Valley from here, was closed on Thursday after the Maoists sent a warning to the staff late on Wednesday night.
Due to the bandh in the Agency area, which has some famous tourist spots, very few tourists visited the area during the two days.
Like on Wednesday, public and private transport vehicles were off the roads, while shops, banks and educational institutions were closed.
The weekly shandy at Maddigaruvu in G. Madugula mandal was not conducted while the one at Guttulaputtu in Paderu mandal was held but with very few turning up.
Superintendent of Police Vineet Brij Lal said the bandh was peaceful and incident free. Compared to the first day shops were open in some places on the second day. A small poster was found in Koyyuru area but it could be a fake , he said. The police were ready to meet any eventuality in the next few days if the Maoists tried to create violence, Mr. Brij Lal said.
