It is very tiresome to live in Kerala. Nobody is interested in public interest. Some of them from Delhi, they actually not aware of the people of Kerala and there needs, declare hartal on there on selfish wishes like "People of Kerala welcomes hartal. They are interested in it." Eventhough the 'Bandh' is banned,it is shamelessly celecbrated by our politicians in the name of "hartal". Why the law and order unhelp to protestest this brutality. Why the criminals on road not blocked by the police?. Nobody is ready to speak for the people. Politicians shamelessly says "people need hartal", however who speks for the people. Hartal is aginist the people. No public interest behind it, jsut to show the 'gundaism' of politcal parties on the road. Hartal is not compulsary thing, however, when a cader type politcal party declared hartal in kerala means "you should never go outside tomorrow with your vehicles, you must close your shops". Is this a demoratic way or phasist way? Please do some strong decison againist the hartal, before the next hartal.

Happy Hartal !!! People in Kerala celebrated one more 'Hartal' and it was business as usual for the Left Brigade. They came, they saw and they conquered the common man. After all, it was meant for the common man, so the common man too has the responsibility to make it a resounding success! And a success it was for the organizers and also for the Kerala State Beverages Corporation. Hearty Congratulations! The SMS crazy youth of the state wish each other 'Happy Hartal' ! Hartal, the word has origins from Gujarati language. A certain Gujarati called Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi made it an effective weapon against the British. Hartal has no place in Gujarat today. Everyone there seems to be in a hurry to work and progress, what a shame! Communists were opposed to the Mahatma most of the time he was alive. But today, they are the only ones who have kept this 'Gujarati' tradition alive and burning. My only worry is about the Left's righteous indignation for Gujarat. If they realize the word Hartal was imported from Gujarat, they might dump it for some other Non-Modifiable name! Hartal is so much more glamorous and attractive than it's outlawed cousin 'Bundh'. The Indian National Congress has altogether forgotten Gandhi; well the Mahatma I mean! They are too obsessed with that name for totally different reasons known too well to every Indian. Leader of the Opposition in Kerala, Mr Ommen Chandy said: “Including today, in the past four years, the Left has called for nine state-wide hartals. ..." He also told elsewhere that the Congress organized only one Hartal in the past four years against nine by the Left Front. In a football match, 9-1 scoreline would have meant a Brazil - India mismatch! This is bad Omen Mr. Chandy! Is this how you serve the common man? The Left has left you gasping. Some people have called the God's Own Country "Hartal's Own Country". There is a tone of ridicule in these talks and I just don't like it. Let us look at the benefits of Hartal. No Traffic Jams. An added holiday for the over worked 'Working Class'. Well deserved rest for tired travelers and tourists. Huge profits for the Kerala State Beverages Corporation. And don't forget the result: The Prices came down tumbling the very next day! Price rise, Petroleum prices, Party Politics, Religious Intolerance, Atrocities against Minorities and anything and everything is a worthy cause for us to celebrate Hartal in Kerala. Karnataka refusing to share Kaveri water with Tamil Nadu evoked a Hartal in Kerala while the irresponsible Tamil Nadu people went about their work with no concern whatsoever. America's Iraq Policy and Israel's misdeeds against 'Innocent' Palestine have brought life to a stand still in Kerala, because we care! The BJP without a single MLA and the Shiv Sena without even a Party Office can call successful Hartals in Kerala. Isn't this a glorious example of 'Democracy' at its best in Kerala? So we have to legalize Hartals in Kerala. Encourage other underdeveloped states to take cue from us. Introduce the word in the English Dictionary. People like me will be more comfortable writing about Hartals. We can say people are 'Hartaling' when they are on strike. It is so convenient to say 'Kochi Hartalized' instead of the old fashioned Life comes to a stand still in Kochi. The affection for Hartals shown by people of Kerala can be termed 'Hartalophilia'. After celebrating over 100 successful small and large and local and general Hartals each in 2008 and 2009, we should name heartland Kerala as 'Hartaland'! We can borrow from A. R. Rahaman and Subhash Ghai and sing the Hartal Anthem! Everyone's 'Dil will be bechain' and there will be 'Raste pe nain' to see if there is any traffic! On the one hand we will be calling 'Aaja Saawariya aa aa aa aa..." and then sing "Hartal se Hartal Mila"! And most importantly, like health tourism and monsoon tourism; we can also encourage 'Hartal Tourism' in Kerala. No other state will have such an attraction except perhaps West Bengal. So let us all come together and make this a grand reality. "A State by the Hartals, of the Hartals and for the Hartals!" The ultimate Hartalocracy !!!

If the protesters are that much pro people, They (the so called leaders) should have staged an indefinite hunger strike before the Parliment or other suitable place. Not by limiting the basic rights, the Indian constitution guaranteed to its citizen. In a way they are challenging the constitution itself. They dont want to sacrifice their material wellness...instead they put the whole weight on the poor people of the country by letting their followers to do anti-social deeds.

Harthal is just halting the progress of Kerala. We r seeing many technoparks being opened by our chief minister, but is any MNC coming to Kerala. It is mostly the practice of frequent harthals that is halting the progress of most literate state in Kerala. Harthal for petrol proce rise, no harthal for rise in milk prices. Petrol is imported, whereas milk is produced in our own country. Petrol is used mainly by middle class, upper class ppl. Milk is most essential commodity in every household especially when infants r there. Please let us stop this menace once and for all-!

Sir what the political parties are trying to do through these hartals .keralaits are very much happy if they could bring about a hartal. We must show sincerity and dedication to the work we are doing instead keralaits are waiting for a hartal so that they could take rest and relax.if the people are continuing like this, political parties may conduct hartals everyday .but alas only a few people could come against this. people should come in masses and cooperate to throw this off.

In kerala people want hartal once in a month so that they can enjoy life keeping inside the house chicken, bottles and CDs. they can enjoy a paid holiday. you are not losing your one day salary so enjoy by not venturing out and make the harthal a big success. people are lazy, no accountability and resposibility. on the previous day itself they plan how to celebrate the harthal. medias are also encourage it. if more harthals are coming up in kerala, the state may be renamed as Harthal Pradesh.

sir, I's been long since Kerala was crowned with the fully literate state title. It must be due to this reason that the politicians find a new excuse to hold strikes day after day.Since majority of them have rarely seen the gates of a school in their childhood, they won't be bothered about the problems caused by such strikes. Harthals are celebrated with great zeal and pomp in Kerala. The student organisations take special effort to gift the common man with a broken hand or blind eye on this day.Strikes can be a day of sleep and rest for the idler but it has grown to be a nuisance for the people.Such rampage cannot be ended by talks or by force. All that can be done now is to protest against it. -joel john,Eraviperoor

The political parties who make hartal should pay for the loss of money in the state. If this is implemented, then god's own country will remain god's own country or else it is going to be devil's own people in god's own country.

sir, Those who called yet another hartal should answer these questions-Who gave them the right to keep us under house arrest from morning till dusk on every hartal day?Since they forced us to remain inside,is there any difference between them and thet errorists? The irony is that though all stand for the poor,in a hartal,no one stands for thepoor. In fact,it steals their daily bread, and no political party is willing to compensate their loss.Even beggars are denied their daily earning. Every hartal is an attack on the poor.It leaves the rich untouched. We are mere voting machines or slaves who have to dance to the tune of politicians. Many of them do not have the capacity to win even a panchayat election.Still they can paralyse the state with a hartal call.Strange indeed... ramdas

Having hartals is a good way to cure people of procrastination. If you want to do something, better do it today; tomorrow may be too late. Living in Kerala more than anything else will teach people the old adage "Make hay while the sun shines" or "post a letter today, tomorrow could be a strike"; or "fall sick today, tomorrow you may not find any cure". The best day in Kerala is today (of course, only if there is no strike today otherwise you might have to wait till someone from the opposition party wants to buy something)...

Subject : The Use of Harthal
Comments :
We had seen in past that various political parties call Harthal, Bandh on various topic of public conerns. I dont understand any logic behind these Harthals or Bandhs. Becouse one way the price rise gives the burden to the public and other way the one day bandh or harthals give a massive amount of loss of revenue to govt. which ultimately born by the public. so my question is :are these political parties trying to help general public or helping them to get more financial loss and burdens. For god sake harthal or bandh is not solution for any issue. these topic should be dealt with mutual discussions by political parties.

Subject : Harthal-Synonym for Hooliganism
Comments :
It is deplorable that harthals have become a synonym for hooliganism in Kerala adding to the common man's miseries. The political parties seem to be disoriented and misled, caught up in the web of their own vested interests and caring two hoots for the welfare of the state or its citizens.Harthals have become a way of life in Kerala what with the so called leaders meaninglessly calling for harthals at their will and wish. Even non resident malayalis from other states and countries are wary of the innumerable harthal schedules in Kerala and think twice before planning their trip to their homeland. As it has been proved that harthals fail to serve any purpose, why not resort to an alternative mode of protest? Why not hold a peaceful black flag demonstration or even go for a 24-hr hunger strike? All supporters could join the movement while the non-supporters could resume their normal routine. There is no doubt the peace-loving public would offer their whole-hearted co-operation in such a venture.

Subject : Human Rights violation ?
Comments :
(This is a copy of the letter I sent to the Editor, Deepika) Dear Editor, My name is John and I have a question to ask you about a news that has been published. Every body knows that the ‘Harthaal’ and ‘Bandh’ is something that causes too much of trouble to the public. Added to that, it has no credibility whatsoever and also it affects the growth, production and even the very basic development of any community. Over the time there has been a lot of discussion about the same and the matter has been scrutinized by the Judiciary in all the possible aspect. Despite the protest and fury of the political parties in India, I believe it is ruled that no parties, persons or organizations are supposed to force any one else to participate in the Harthaal or Bandh. I think this is mainly on the grounds that it is a strict violation of any citizen’s or person’s rights. If I am right, the judiciary also has given direction about punishing such sort of actions. If this is the case, I have a question now…! Can some body give a directive saying that “…hospitals are exempted from tomorrow’s Harthaal” or “milk distribution is exempted from an upcoming harthaal” or “Road transports are not exempted from Harthaal”…?? Who are they who have the right to order the stoppage or continuity of public services..? Don’t they, in a way, threaten the common man and force an action out of him..? I have been seeing these kind of directions in most Harthaals organized by any parties. Let me quote the example of today’s news. You have given in news that the State leadership of BJP informed that road traffic is not exempted from Harthaal in Kerala, though nation wide essential services are being exempted. http://www.deepika.com/latestnews.asp?ncode=12813 Now, isn’t this an open threatening to the public that if any one try to get on to the road, they will not be allowed to proceed and they will be hurt / attacked? We have raw testimonies of thousands of such deadly attacks, to back up. How can some one dictate / challenge the public like that? How come such an open threat be allowed like that? Isn’t that illegal? Can’t they be punished for such a thing? One final question to you too…! These being the fact, why do you guys – the news papers – give a chance and importance to these notorious guys by publishing their ‘public threatening’? Thank you, Sd/- John
